About Super Singles Bowls

Hi, I’m Fletch.

I’m a 4th year bowler from the Manawatu who’s been lucky enough to win a couple of Centre junior singles events. When I realised there was no pathway to Nationals for winning these, I decided to try and build a fun and different competition that could lead to a National Title for Juniors.

When I combined this thinking with the fact that I strongly believe clubs would be well served to have more short form play to attract new members who don’t want to commit to all day, Short Form Bowls (SFB) was born.

2023 was a great first year with qualifying Juniors from 24 Centres getting together last June in Naenae to battle out the first National title.

This was only possible because of the Clubs that supported Junior bowls and hosted the qualifying events (which is hugely appreciated of course). Then, as is usual with bowls, we all pitched in and made something very cool happen on a national scale.

We also had superb tech support from Bowls NZ with the live-streaming, and John McBeth kindly came and donated his time to commentate and really bring the thing to life. There’s more about that here.

To be clear, SFB has not been endorsed by Bowls NZ or any Centres. It is a privately run by a special purpose company I have set up, and this is the entity that any competing players are dealing with for any SFB tournaments.

I’m building a small team to create software products that can help clubs run short formats of bowls, and hope that we can play a small part in more participation in what really is a great game.
